Thirty-five persons with prior experience in statistics are receiving training this week in whatโ€™s being referred to as a โ€œTrain the Trainersโ€ workshop, relative to the execution of Grenadaโ€™s upcoming population and housing census.

The training is being conducted virtually.

Facilitating the train the trainers exercise are officials from the Census and Survey Department of the Central Statistical Office, as well as a Census Specialist from the UNFPA (the United Nations Population Fund), and a Statistics Expert from the worldโ€™s leading statistical organization, Statistics Canada.

The exercise, according to reports, signals the start of a training scheme for participants, including field staff, enumerators and supervisors. Brizan says the exercise is important for the determination of a successful data collection process.

The training is also being used to test the questionnaire and manual that will be used for the execution of the census this year.

Following the completion of this weekโ€™s exercise, itโ€™s disclosed thereโ€™ll be the training of all successful applicants for the enumerator and supervisor positions.

Director of Statistics Halim Brizan.

The 2021 Population and Housing Census is being held under the theme โ€œNothing about Us, Without Us, because we all Countโ€.

The population and housing census begins September 15.
