It’s been brought to our attention that Grenada, as well as Dominica, Antigua/Barbuda, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and other regional partners have signed a landmark Border Security Pact with the United States under CARICOM IMPACS.
The agreement establishes the first-ever multi-lateral biometric data-sharing partnership between the US Department of Homeland Security and CARICOM member states.
It’s aimed at helping stronger border security, faster identification of criminals and immigration threats, greater cooperation between Caribbean nations and the United States, and enhanced protection for citizens while strengthening regional security.
The agreement creates an automated system for sharing biometric information to help both the United States and CARICOM countries identify individuals who may pose security or immigration risks.
The general belief is that it’s a major step toward making the Caribbean safer and improving international cooperation.
The agreement is said to represent one of the most significant security partnerships ever signed between the United States and the Caribbean.
